RECALL: Another Chicken Chip Brand at Risk of Salmonella

Yesterday, I made a post about the Gaines Family Farmstead Chicken Chips recall. Shortly after, the FDA announced another recall for a different brand of dog treats. Again, this was a chicken chip recall related to Salmonella. Keep reading to make sure you don't have the recalled treats in your home.

Which Products Were Recalled?

Carolina Prime Pet recalled 400 of their 16-ounce "Hollywood Feed Carolina Made Chicken Chips." The affected products have a lot number of 20051324L2 and an expiration date of 11/13/25. These treats are packaged in purple and black bags.

These dog treats were sold online and through Hollywood Feed stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

This recall occurred after third party testing found the potential for Salmonella in some samples. So far, there are no reported illnesses related to this recall. No other products or lot codes are affected.

Risks of Salmonella for People and Pets

Both humans and animals can face negative impacts of Salmonella in dog treats. If your dog eats these treats, they could experience lethargy, diarrhea, fever, vomiting, decreased appetite, and abdominal pain. Infected dogs that are otherwise healthy can still pass the bacteria to people and other pets.

If people come into contact with the treats, they could experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. In extreme cases, Salmonella could lead to more extreme conditions, such as arterial infections, arthritis, endocarditis, urinary tract issues, and muscle pain.

It's better to be safe than sorry with your family's health. If any pets or people in your household display unusual symptoms after coming into contact with this product, seek medical care right away.
